SHARE LIFE: DONATE BLOOD

One of the things my G-pa left behind as a legacy is the notion of giving of one's self! He did this in many ways, one of which was by donating blood. I remember as a kid seeing one of his bumper stickers, and it said, "Don't be a chicken. Donate blood." Every other month on the second Tuesday a mobile blood unit comes to our community and I do my best to get there (all 4 kids in tow, as well as the baby that we watch from time to time). The kids are amazed to see it all work! Seeing their faces when the techs give them more info on how "mommy's blood will save 3 lives!" is just priceless. So - I encourage all of you to do what you can - when you can! And just as an fyi... for those who are too close to the minimum weight requirement or those who take too long to recover, they will allow a "minimum blood donation."

Less Than Five Percent Of The American Population Donates Blood, Yet 95% Of All Americans Will Need Blood At Least Once In Their Lifetime! Besides 8 Million mosquitos can't be wrong!

Ahh, if only I could say "sorry I can't give blood; I don't weigh enough!!" ;) No, I will pretty much never weigh less than 110 pounds so I guess that means I am good to give. My only thought is what am I going to do with my Tornado Toddler?

I need to totally do this. I've had 5 blood transfusions so far (back in 1993) and so i definatly need to give it back!

E - Actually - they bumped up the min. weight to 120! As far as your Tornado Toddler... ah... well... grandma??? ;)

Shellie - wow! Hope all is well now! It's kinda cool because after you give blood you get a pre-recorded call from someone (usually a kid) telling you of the reason they needed your gift!

It's just one of those "feel good" types of things!

OK - I should be crackin the books w/ my kiddos.
